When is this and what is the course of fire??
I haven't shot in a competion for a while and it might be time to start again.
Butner , NC is only 250 miles or so, not a bad drive.

I shot the f-class at Butner in June and had a blast. I've been shooting long range competitions for over 30 years and these folks at Butner do a great job.
I will be there next week for a f-class match 7/31/04, then I'll go back for their National Championships.

Okay... A few additional things. Is NRA membership required?? I have a 308 Win that shoots well but notice that if it's ~18.2lbs or less it's F/TR and the scores go to NRA (hence the NRA membership question), do I just add on weight to bump out of the "TR" class (I've never shot F Class stuff so I have no idea what's involved).
I also have a fine 300 WSM but would been to make some loads for it and I'd rather just get a feel for F Class stuff before I commit.
I'm off this weekend and could make the drive but need a little lead time for gear prep.
TIA

Dave, I don't know if a NRA # is required usually there is a space for it on the match form. Here is the match directors e-mail ( xat9@aol.com ) I'm sure he can give you the straight skinny. Your .308 should be fine and if you wanted to bump to 'open' class I don't think anyone will complain. They have a fine range with electric pits and a great crew of folks running things.

Thanks.
I'll e-mail xat9@aol.com and ask.
I checked with my wife and got a "Kitchen Pass" so long as I bring her (she's a good sport and fun to be around).
Thanks

Okay, I'm an NRA member now (again) so I can shoot the match.
Will I be partnered up with another shooter (squads) or will I need my own scorekeeper?
Will I need/desire a spotting scope and stand??
How about a shooting mat, are those desirable?? I generally just plop down on the ground and shoot at the sniper comps and for hunting.
Thanks for the help.

Dave asked: Q. Will I be partnered up with another shooter (squads) or will I need my own scorekeeper? A. Your partner will score for you, It would be a good idea to let the match director know your coming so he can squad ahead of time
Q Will I need/desire a spotting scope and stand?? A Good idea to bring one to score your partner and read conditions if you don't have one some one will usually help out.
Q How about a shooting mat, are those desirable?? I generally just plop down on the ground and shoot at the sniper comps and for hunting. A Not required, but desirable to keep the dust off the tweed and jodpers and keep the ants from hauling away your brass.
A bipod or ruck and a rear bag or sand sock + a good idea of 600 and 1000 yd impact for your load will help avoid those embarrassing 'dirt buffalos' (i speak from experience). A hat and sun block a couple of folding chairs and maybe an umbrella for the wife + beverages and a sandwich or snacks (not available on the range) to keep up the blood sugar should round it out. Bring whatever accoutriments you need to keep you happy as it's a Guard range kinda out in the sticks.

Looks like I'm headed that way. I need to pack up my gear and get a room at a local lodge for Friday night. I only plan to shoot on Saturday if that's an option, got work around home to catch up on.
Edited: Got a room at the Econo Lodge for Friday night.

Whichever Econolodge is listed on the NC Shooting Club website. I thought Butner but Creedmore is pretty close, maybe they're one in the same??
I'm leaving to head down just after work tomorrow (~ 1630 - 30July2004), 274 miles for me and Yahoo Maps predicts 5.5 hours. If the DC area traffic will let me through the Mixing Bowl I suspect I'll make it in much less time than predicted.
Looking forward to the shoot and meeting a few shooters. I'll be the newbie looking fella with the Mr. Magoo glasses, gray hair, 5'8", 195 lbs, caucaziod, M40A1 type rifle.
